Hungary’s central location in Europe is one of its key competitive advantages. With four major European transportation corridors running through the country, Hungary is considered a gateway and a central hub in Europe. In order to exploit these benefits, Hungary is determined to enhance its infrastructure and improve its integration into the pan-European networks.
Hungary can be accessed also via the Trans-Siberian railway, which provides a further opportunity for good transportation, therefore – as a part of its regional development strategy –, the Hungarian government has launched a major project to develop the city of Záhony (located at the vicinity of the Ukrainian border) and its environment into a special area. The Záhony Development Program has begun in 2008.
Due to the existing unified customs strategy of the European Union it is possible to declare the goods either at the seaport or at the destination (if it is located within the EU). The declaration process operates at high performance: 5.5 declarations happen in each second. After the declaration, the goods can be transported and sold freely within the borders of the European Union.
